Math for Meaning™: Story Problems 201 Institute

During our Story Problems 201 institute, participants will expand upon their understanding of Lavinia Group’s Math for Meaning™ method with a focus on using student work to drive effective coaching and discourse that result in concrete and transferable mathematical understanding for students. In this interactive session designed for those looking to take their teaching and leading of Story Problems to the next level, teachers and leaders in Grades K-5 will learn key techniques for understanding and studying student work, transferable coaching that supports student independence, and facilitating discourse that culminates in clear and and transferable learning goals for students to walk away with.

Participants will gain:

  • A fresh understanding of Lavinia Group’s approach to teaching problem solving and why it is critical to teach mathematics through context.
  • Efficient frameworks  for sorting and studying student work to drive their planning and teaching.
  • A deep understanding of how to coach students effectively during work time based on student needs. 
  • Resources and tools for how to plan for and lead a student-led discourse resulting in an appropriate learning goal based on student needs

WHO SHOULD COME:  Teachers and leaders in Grades K-8 who want to learn how to teach Lavinia Group’s Guided Reading for Meaning™ in their classrooms. Participants will be will be divided by grade-level to ensure the content is applicable.
