Insight Humanities™ 201: Writing Institute
Writing is an incredibly powerful tool; a way to put our ideas out into the world. During our Insight Humanities™ Writing Institute, we will dive deeply into the qualities of excellent writing instruction and the techniques that will propel students forward as writers. Grounded in Lavinia Group’s latest thinking on the teaching of writing, participants will learn how to leverage mentor writing pieces and shared writing as a way to guide students and lift the level of writing in the classroom. We will also analyze writing from across grade levels and genres so participants leave with a solid understanding of what grade-level writing looks like, and how to support students in reaching the next grade level. We will analyze video together and hone our lens around what excellent writing instruction looks like in action.
Participants will gain:
- A deep understanding of how to teach an effective writing workshop that supports students in becoming clear and compelling writers
- Methods for leveraging model writing and mentor texts to analyze author’s craft, and in turn, lift the level of student writing
- Proven techniques for analyzing student writing and creating targeted action plans
- Robust practice and feedback planning and teaching Insight Humanities™ writing lessons
