Managing Director

James is delighted to be joining Lavinia Group as a Managing Director.  He brings a wealth of experience in education, as well as an unwavering commitment to instructional leadership, coaching, and professional development.  Before coming to Lavinia, James served as an associate superintendent for teaching, learning, and schools in Montgomery County, Maryland.  He supervised and supported principals, ensuring accountability for student learning outcomes at 72 elementary, middle, and high schools across eight geographic clusters.  During his 30-year tenure as a public school educator, James was elected to two terms as president of the Montgomery County Association of Administrators and Principals (MCAAP) and selected as the founding principal of Clarksburg High School from 2005-2014.  At Clarksburg, James established a culture of learning for nearly 2,000 students, 80% of whom were enrolled in Honors/Advanced Placement (AP) courses. galvanizing a school community around data-driven school improvement plans prioritizing college readiness.  He began his career as a middle and high school mathematics teacher, often engaging students with innovative strategies and piloting experiential curricula like The Algebra Project & Connected Mathematics.  James earned a bachelor’s of business administration in finance from The College of William & Mary and a master’s in secondary mathematics education from The George Washington University.
