Summer Discovery is Funding Summer Learning
for Southeast Michigan
We're thrilled to introduce the Summer Discovery program, an initiative aimed at bridging the gap in summer learning opportunities within Southeast Michigan. Schools and community organizations in Wayne, Oakland, and Macomb counties have a unique opportunity to create enriching summer programs for students entering 1st through 9th grades in 2024.
Eligible organizations can receive up to $2,000 per student to develop or implement high-quality summer experiences designed to combat summer learning loss.
As Summer Discovery's partner, Lavinia Group understands the intricacies of creating effective summer learning experiences. That's why we offer a comprehensive, turnkey program that meets all the grant's goals and requirements-the RISE Summer Learning Program.
Lavinia Group's nationwide RISE Summer Learning Program truly delivers results. In 2023, students enrolled improved math skills by 120% and literacy skills by 189% in 5 weeks.
Delivering an to your school.
Every Lavinia Group partner receives an impact report that equips educators with actionable insights to bolster student learning. By analyzing student data from the summer program, the report enables teachers to tailor instruction for individual needs in the fall. It also helps evaluate program effectiveness to inform ongoing improvements. This targeted feedback loop allows for data-driven teaching adjustments, ensuring students receive the responsive support they need to thrive.

Professional Development
Enhance your summer learning program with comprehensive onboarding for leaders and teachers, coupled with ongoing professional development throughout your summer session. Leaders and teachers will develop skills that are not only valuable for summer school but also applicable throughout the school year, too.
Pre-Program Leader Onboarding
(approximately 2 hours required for leaders)
Leaders participate in a required 2-hour training session before the start of Teacher Training Week where they receive a comprehensive overview of the Lavinia RISE program. Learn strategies to support teachers in executing a high-impact summer program that accelerates student learning and insight into best practices for summer instructional management. Leaders will also gain access to valuable tools and resources they can use to rapidly develop teacher practice.

Take summer learning to new heights with RISE's complimentary training for teachers.
Pre-Program Teacher Training Week
(approximately 12-16 hours required for new and returning teachers)
Develop alignment on the vision for the summer and prepare teachers by planning and practicing curriculum for the first few lessons. Throughout the interactive training, teachers can ask questions, discuss content, and debate instructional approaches.
Weekly Leader Cohorts
(approximately 45 minutes 1x weekly optional for leaders)
Optional weekly leader cohorts create a community of practice for summer leaders to build leadership skills, share best practices, and collectively problem-solve any challenges leaders commonly encounter throughout the summer. These virtual meetings occur weekly throughout the summer and will be facilitated by a Lavinia Group coach. Each meeting has a predetermined topic aligned to the summer schedule. For example, in week 1 we will discuss how to develop an action plan in response to your pre-assessment data.
Lavinia's Assessment Tools
Enhance and assess the effectiveness of your summer program using Lavinia Group's tailored pre- and post-assessments. These tools are designed to guide instruction throughout the summer, allowing you to gauge student progress in both English language arts and math, in alignment with Michigan's educational standards.
