What is RedThread Foundations?

RedThread Foundations is a comprehensive early literacy program designed to combine systematic phonics instruction with knowledge-building in science, social studies, and literature. With a focus on engaging and culturally diverse texts, the program supports educators in building confident, skilled readers who are equipped with critical thinking abilities and a deeper understanding of the world.

This professional development series is designed to provide educators with the training, tools, and confidence needed to implement the RedThread Foundations program effectively. The series combines a hands-on in-person workshop with ongoing virtual unit launches to ensure educators feel supported and prepared throughout the year.

Session Structure

Daylong In-Person Workshop

• Date: Thursday, August 19, 2025
• Time: 9:00 AM – 3:00 PM ET

What You Will Learn:
This foundational workshop is designed to introduce educators to the core components of RedThread Foundations.

Participants will:

• Gain hands-on experience with Units 1 and 2, understanding their structure, objectives, and instructional strategies.
• Learn how to deliver effective, systematic phonics instruction while building student knowledge through integrated content.
• Explore techniques for lesson pacing, scaffolding, and fostering meaningful classroom discussions.
• Develop confidence in using program resources to engage students and achieve literacy goals.

Virtual Unit Launches with In-Depth Practice (Units 3-6)

Overview: The virtual sessions provide ongoing, targeted support to help educators prepare for and implement each unit with classroom-ready strategies and practical insights.

What You Will Learn:

• Understand the objectives and instructional focus for each unit.
• Learn how to apply program strategies to meet the diverse needs of your students.
• Gain practical tips for scaffolding, differentiation, and ensuring student engagement.
• Collaborate with peers and program experts to refine your implementation techniques.
