Curriculum Development
Shannon brings 25 years of transformative experience in mathematics education across K-12 classrooms, higher education, research, and curriculum development. Her journey began in Seattle, where she taught elementary and middle school mathematics while also leading K-8 professional development for teachers with the Developing Mathematical Ideas (DMI) curriculum. As a K-6 mathematics specialist and middle school math/science peer coach in Alexandria, Virginia, she honed her expertise in teacher support and mentorship.
Driven to maximize her impact on mathematics instruction and student success, Shannon earned her PhD in Curriculum, Instruction, and Teacher Education with a focus on Mathematics Education from Michigan State University. As an Assistant Professor at Northern Arizona University, she cultivated the next generation of educators through elementary mathematics methods courses while conducting research on mathematics instruction and teachers' pedagogical beliefs.
Shannon's passion for curriculum development led her to Amplify, where she spent three years creating innovative elementary mathematics curriculum and leading a team of developers focused on Grades 4-5 print and digital lessons. Now, she brings her comprehensive expertise to Lavinia Group, where she will lead the development of a new K-5 mathematics curriculum.
