What is RedThread Foundations?

RedThread Foundations is a comprehensive early literacy program designed to combine systematic phonics instruction with knowledge-building in science, social studies, and literature. With a focus on engaging and culturally diverse texts, the program supports educators in building confident, skilled readers who are equipped with critical thinking abilities and a deeper understanding of the world.

This advanced professional development series is designed to refine instructional strategies and address common challenges for the RedThread Foundations curriculum. Through an in-person workshop and ongoing virtual sessions, participants will gain deeper insights and practical tools for their classrooms.

Session Structure

Advanced Daylong In-Person Workshop

• Date: Thursday, August 21, 2025
• Time: 9:00 AM – 3:00 PM ET

What You’ll Learn:
This workshop builds on educators’ foundational curriculum knowledge, offering advanced strategies and insights. Participants will:

• Dive deeper into Units 1 and 2, exploring how to enhance student engagement and outcomes.
• Examine techniques for integrating literacy and knowledge-building with even greater precision.
• Identify and address common challenges in lesson pacing, differentiation, and scaffolding.
• Share and develop advanced practices for fostering rich classroom discussions and critical thinking.

Virtual Unit Launches with In-Depth Practice (Units 3-6)

Overview: The virtual sessions provide advanced, practical support to help educators refine their approach for each unit and apply innovative techniques in their classrooms.

What You’ll Learn:

• Analyze each unit’s objectives and challenges with an experienced lens.
• Explore new ways to scaffold instruction and address diverse learning needs.
• Discover techniques for deepening student engagement and fostering critical thinking.
• Collaborate with peers to troubleshoot, innovate, and enhance implementation strategies.
